Harry Angel Memorial 80m Sprint 2026
On Saturday, 2nd of May, I participated in the Harry Angel Memorial 80m Sprint. The sprint is a ham radio contest for Australia and New Zealand to commemorate Harry Angel, VK4HA.
It’s a short contest that takes place on the 80-meter band for 106 minutes — one minute for each year that Harry Angel was alive.
I set up a linked dipole and a G90 radio at the Dandenong Police Paddocks. I started a little late, and the radio conditions weren’t great, but I managed 21 contacts including a VK6 (Western Australia) and a ZL (New Zealand), both which I’m very happy with.
Below is a map of the contacts made (ignore those in the NT; that is the default location if the operator hadn’t updated it).
The furthest contact was VK6Y at almost 2,500km, while ZL4RO was only around 2,250km!
